Big Growth With Jobs for Reentrants
Who Have Substance Use Issues
& More!

2nd Chance Indiana is working in tandem with Recovery Works, which supports reentrants who have substance use issues, to get jobs and to get to and from those jobs since the majority do not have access to private or public transportation. In only. Nine months, participation has grown from 29  participants to 88, who are employed in 22 towns and cities in Indiana.

Also in this issue, you’ll read about the 18 counties that are statistically considered to be transportation deserts. They have no public transportation, which leaves many without the ability to get to and from work. With 2nd Chance Indiana’s van support, they are able to not only get a job but to keep the job as they get back on their feet, save some money, and eventually get a vehicle.  2CI’s van transportation is the effort that closes the circle of success for the 68% of reentrants who do not have a vehicle when they are released.

And, 2CI is working on a cooperative grant with RecycleForce to provide job counseling efforts for the 18 to 24-year-old justice-impacted young men who go through RecycleForce’s program of training and certification that sets them on a path to find good jobs that lead to success.

Monroe County is featured in 2CI’s blog post regarding their decade-long effort to support probation clients and help more of them to avoid probation revocation. You can read more about that by clicking the link in the newsletter.

Finally: Kudos to our Director of Employment Services, Molly Oliver, for the feature about her in Influential Women’s online publication. And, many thanks to Scott Whiting, who has recently retired. He worked with 2nd Chance Indiana in the development of employing justice-impacted people over the years, and we are so grateful for his involvement.
